Avoiding problems from high winds
Occasionally, waste collection problems can be caused by high winds. This can lead to some refuse and recycling being blown from collection containers and some containers being blown over.
Therefore, we ask that care is taken when putting materials and rubbish out for collection on very windy days. The best option in most cases is to ensure loose materials are weighed down. It may help, if possible, to put containers in a sheltered spot, but only if they can still be easily seen by collectors and are placed at the front of your property.
Lids or stretch covers can be purchased for recycling boxes and ordered online or by phone.
Collection crews pick up materials they drop or spill and may be able to pick up items blown close to containers, but cannot pick up those blown down the street.
Please do all you can to avoid wind-blown material and report any serious litter problems to customer service teams at your district council.
