Clinical waste collections
A free weekly clinical waste collection service is available to private households.
Clinical waste is any waste which consists wholly or partly of:
- human or animal tissue;
- blood or bodily fluids;
- drugs or other pharmaceutical products (these can also be returned to chemists);
- swabs or dressings; or;
- syringes, needles or other sharp instruments.
Clinical waste collections are not usually intended for adult hygiene products, such as incontinence pads, or dressings for bed sores; for this waste, extra refuse capacity can be requested.
To arrange clinical waste collections, contact your local district council customer services.
Clinical waste collections for businesses.
We cannot collect clinical waste from businesses, which need to make their own arrangements. We suggest checking local phone directories under Waste Services for information on commercial service providers.
