New life for old books and movies

Most people know someone affected by heart disease and now you can help raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) just by clearing out your spare books, CDs, DVDs and videos.

New recycling banks are being provided at some Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) as a joint venture between Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) and the BHF. The donations are a huge help for BHF Shops in Street and Wells where funds are raised for much needed research, education, patient care and life-saving equipment.

Steve Read, Managing Director of Somerset Waste Partnership, said: “Most people have stacks of books, CDs, DVDs and videos that they no longer use. By depositing these items in the British Heart Foundation Banks you clear out your clutter and make a donation to a very important charity”.

The first BHF banks are being installed at Dulcote, Coleford and Street HWRCs. If the venture is successful, SWP hopes to expand the service to other locations across the county. The banks will accept books of any quality or condition. Readable versions will be re-sold locally and the dog-eared copies will be recycled into paper pulp. Please only deposit retail pre-recorded CDs, DVDs and videos rather than home recorded films and music.

To find out where your local BHF shop is located please visit bhf.org.uk/shops or call 0870 120 4141 to be connected to your nearest shop.
