SORT IT PLUS Roadshows

Somerset Waste Partnership will be holding road shows in areas of Sedgemoor about to start the new SORT IT PLUS kerbside recycling service so local people can ask questions and see the new containers.

SORT IT PLUS is being phased in across Sedgemoor over the next two years and is expected to double recycling rates in the district. The new service is being introduced following successful trials last year and provides weekly collections of food waste and recycling, and fortnightly collections of refuse.

Around 2,500 homes will join the service in November. These are in parts of Brent Knoll, Durleigh, Axbridge, Chilton Polden and Burnham-on-Sea. Notification packs have been delivered to all participating households. These will be followed by new collection containers, together with full service details, which will be delivered over a three-week period before the new collections start. Householders will be supplied with a food waste bin and kitchen caddy, an additional box for plastic bottles and cardboard and, where properties have been assessed to be suitable, a wheeled bin for refuse.

The road shows will be held at: -
• Wednesday 14th October 10am to 1pm Brent Knoll Parish Hall
• Wednesday 14th October 3.30pm to 6.00pm Chilton Polden Church Hall
• Thursday 15th October 4.30pm to 7.00pm St Mary’s Primary School, Durleigh
• Friday 16th October 10am to 1pm The Princess Hall, Burnham-on-Sea

As well as asking questions about SORT IT PLUS, the road shows will allow people to see the new collection containers. A smaller wheeled bin for refuse can be requested if it is thought the standard size bin will be too big.
