SORT IT PLUS - The roll out begins
With the original trial areas this will bring the total to over 5,000 households on SORT IT PLUS, with the rest of Taunton Deane now scheduled to have the service rolled out within next year.
Since Taunton Deane Borough Council voted earlier this year to bring SORT IT PLUS to all suitable households much work has been done to make sure the service starts to make a difference as soon as possible. This new batch of households will be added in various areas, including parts of Albermarle, Galmington, West Monkton, Holywell Lake and Waterleaze. Participating households will receive a second box for plastic bottles and cardboard and full service details later this month ready for the service to start at the end of November.
Councillor Mel Mullins, Taunton Deane representative on the Somerset Waste Board, welcomed the speedy progress.
“I’m extremely pleased things are moving on schedule. Rolling out SORT IT PLUS is a great example of improving services despite very difficult economic conditions and responds to local people who really care about cutting down on waste. The big expansion will come next year when we’ll add tens of thousands more households and for many people it can’t come too soon.”
Householders joining SORT IT PLUS in this phase will have the opportunity to talk to Somerset Waste Partnership at road shows on:
• Tuesday 24th November 6.30-7.30pm St James Church Hall • Wednesday 25th November 11am-1pm Trident Community Centre
