SORT IT PLUS: Bins deliveries commence to eleven thousand homes
Thousands of new bins and recycling boxes will be distributed in Sedgemoor over the next two weeks in the latest expansion of SORT IT PLUS - one of Britain’s most successful recycling services.
This is the second phase of the expansion in Sedgemoor, with the whole district scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. This phase covers 11,000 homes in parts of Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea and several rural communities across the district. Participating households have previously been sent a notification pack.
Councillor Stuart Kingham, Somerset Waste Board Member and Sedgemoor’s Executive Portfolio Holder – Environment said: “This is the biggest expansion yet and will help make a real difference to recycling in Sedgemoor. Over the course of 2010 we’re bringing SORT IT PLUS to the whole of the district, which should lead to our recycling rate doubling to over 50%. This will give Sedgemoor one of the highest recycling rates in the country and save money for council tax payers by cutting the burden of landfill taxes”.
SORT IT PLUS will bring weekly recycling collections, including plastic bottles and cardboard, weekly food waste collections and fortnightly refuse collections.
