A permit is needed to bring household waste into recycling sites with pick-ups, including Land Rover pick-ups, or vans (up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight), or trailers (up to three metre floor length) towed by cars.
Vans with trailers or pick-ups with trailers cannot access any recycling site. Multi-axle trailers cannot access any recycling site.
Only one permit for a van or pick-up and/or one permit for a trailer (to be towed by a car) is allocated per household. There are no exceptions. Pick-up users require a “van” permit. Do not apply for a trailer permit with a van or pick-up registration number. Do not apply for a trailer permit for any trailer with more than a single axle or a floor length over three metres.
Household waste disposal facilities are for Somerset residents disposing of household waste only. Permits are only available for Somerset residential addresses.
Duplicate or unacceptable permits will be removed and loss of site access for permit scheme misuse may result. Unsure if your vehicle requires a permit? Click here for illustrated guidance.
Business users do not need and cannot apply for permits. For advice on business waste and the new measures, see our Business Advice pages. Any van and trailer combinations can use the Highbridge and Taunton (Priorswood) recycling sites if carrying commercial waste. Disposal of this commercial waste must be paid for in separate arrangements with our contractor, Viridor.
Do you need a permit for a van, or a permit for a trailer? If both, a separate application must be made for each permit. Only one permit for each will be allocated to a Somerset household. Use of the permit in compliance with these Terms and Conditions is the responsibility of the applicant.
