A permit is needed to enter Somerset recycling sites to deposit household waste with a van, pick-up, including Land Rover pick-up, campervan or minibus (up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight), or a trailer (single axle up to three metre floor length) towed by a car. Pick-ups, campervans and minibuses require a “van” permit.

Vans, pick-ups, including Land Rover pick-ups, campervans and minibuses cannot access any recycling site to deposit household waste while towing trailers. Multi-axle trailers cannot access any recycling site.

Only one “van” permit and/or one permit for a car-towed trailer is allocated per Somerset household.  There are no exceptions.  Do not apply for a trailer permit with a van, pick-up, campervan or minibus registration number. Do not apply for a trailer permit for any multi-axle trailer or one with a floor length over three metres.

Household waste disposal facilities are for Somerset residents disposing of household waste only. Permits are only available for Somerset residential addresses.

Duplicate or unacceptable permits will be removed and loss of site access for permit scheme misuse may result. Unsure if your vehicle requires a permit? Check the details here.

Business users do not need and cannot apply for permits. For advice on business waste and permits, see our Business Advice pages. Any van, pick-up, including Land Rover pick-up, campervan, minibus and trailer combinations can use the Highbridge and Taunton (Priorswood) recycling sites if carrying commercial waste. Disposal of this commercial waste must be paid for in separate arrangements with our contractor, Viridor.
