What should go in energy-from-waste skips?

Energy-from-waste (EFW) residual waste skips at recycling sites accept all household waste except:

  • Where it is recyclable or compostable either at the kerbside (e.g. paper, clothing or food waste) or at the recycling site (e.g. wooden furniture, plasterboard, or plastic pots, tubs and trays)
  • Where it is hazardous (garden chemicals), explosive (gas bottles) or liquid (cooking oil) waste
  • Where it is too big to fit in your kerbside residual waste wheeled bin (e.g. mattresses or large rolls of carpet)
  • Where it contains high levels of sulphur or chlorine (e.g. UPVC window frames, fascias, pipes, guttering and flooring or hard plastic toys & garden furniture)

Non-EFW (landfill) residual waste skips accept all household waste except:

  • Where it is recyclable or compostable either at the kerbside (eg paper, clothing or food waste) or at the recycling site site (e.g. wooden furniture, plasterboard, or plastic pots, tubs and trays)
  • Where it is hazardous (garden chemicals), explosive (gas bottles) or liquid (cooking oil) waste
  • Where it is accepted in the recycling site’s EFW residual waste bin
