Service update: Saturday 12 June Nick Cater June 12, 2021June 14, 2021 Latest News Saturday 12 June – A special effort today Saturday by crews across Somerset has seen significant progress in reducing the number of delayed collections following recent service disruptions. Twin operations saw return collections today for the recycling usually taken on Tuesdays from Sedgemoor, while other crews collected garden waste today that had been missed recently in a range of locations in all four districts. Unfortunately, not all of the outstanding garden waste collections could be completed today. These will collected early next week. Among areas affected: Galmington in Taunton, Hatch Beachamp, West Hatch, Staple Fitzpaine, Stoke St Gregory, Meare Green, Brushford and Exbridge in Somerset West and Taunton; Fivehead, Swell and Seavington St Mary in South Somerset; and Cross and Compton Bishop in Sedgemoor. Road list below. Recent disruption has been the result of a national and more acute Somerset shortage of HGV drivers (including Covid impact on driver tests, fewer EU drivers in UK) and other factors, from delays due to far higher levels of materials put out through to staff sickness/Covid quarantine, and knock-on impact of traffic, roadworks and breakdowns. A range of measures to address these issues has been put into place, including a new recruitment campaign for full-time permanent driver/loaders and loaders. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
